Does anyone know how to set a variable equal to multiple values?

ex.

$VARIABLE = value OR value

I'm a newbie to PHP so bear with me. Thanks everyone.

I do php development for a living, and there must be an easyier way... but I just do like

$monkey = $bananas;
$squirrel = $mysql;

hehehehhe.... anyway I tend to use arrays when I get alot of "crap" so to speak

If you're wanting to set a variable conditionally, use something like this:

if(condition 1 is met)
$variable = "x";
else
$variable = "y";

I think it's called an array. How about this?

$VARIABLE[1] = "Ding";
$VARIABLE[2] = "Oso";

Therefore, $VARIABLE equals, or should we say contains, both of these values. To get either, set and check for conditions. If you need some more help, let me know.
