problems with nl2br

perhaps its just my headache, perhaps i'm just plain stupid ...

here's the problem:

a textbox, the value is written to the db with nl2br($strvar), now i need a function to

a) convert the br tag back to a new line while the text is displayed in the textbox

b) after a modification i need to convert the nl back to a br tag, but WITHOUT multiplying the new lines ...

at the moment my new lines get multiplied by 2 with every submit.

any help? i'm on the verge of giving up and leaving the country to grow pumpkins in australia ... 🙂

the best thing is not to save the data with <BR>'s in the database. save it as it is, and whenever you display it on the page, then execute nl2br() on it.

else, if you dont do that, then to convert from nl2br() back to newline characters, you can use regex. e.g.

$newString = eregi_replace('<BR>', "\n", $source);
