specify a target with header() function?

When you re-direct using the header() function is there a way to specify a target for the new page? I'm using the header() function on a page in a frameset and would like to re-direct to a whole new window, not just the frame. In html the target would be _parent, but how can I do this with the header() function?....

any thoughts???

I've looked at the PHP Manual and the W3C HTTP Documentation, and there is nothing written about redirecting to seperate windows.

I would say that frames and window management are usually handled by the browser, and are more to do with the HTML spec of window naming and targeting etc.

Perhaps it might be more beneficial to try something on the client side (i.e. JavaScript).

cheers David, I thought as much unfortunately. I managed to get round it if the redirect takes place after processing a form on the page because you can specify a target in the form tag. But without a form tag I'm not sure really....

The only way that I know to do this, other than javascript is to do it in the form. For instance, I am submitting a username and password and checking with the database to see if the user exists. If they do, I forward them to the successful login page using the header(Location🙂 function. I found that I need to specify the target in the form that is submitting the username password first, or so it seems, like <form action="authenticate_function.php" target="_top"> I am not sure if you are doing something similar, but I hope that helps.
