Apache help

Hi everyone...
not so much a php question, but certainly has an effect on my php projects..

basically, I'm a bit of a hack..

my webserver file is /var/www
I can access anything located in that directory but anywhere else is off limits..
I can't even access folders above /var/www
for example /var/www/images.

how can I change this so I can access other folders??

1) in /var/www/images, var is above www, and www is above images.
2) define 'access' are you saying you can't view an image in /var/www/images or what?
3) did you set the access rights properly?

ok sorry I'm back to front..

images is a folder below my www folder..

I can access documents that are located in the www folder but not the images folder..

access rights?

I'm kinda new to apache/linux/php so feel free to talk to me like I don't know sh*t..

What is the exact error you get when you try to access docs/images in the sub-folder?
