What is $html_type and $picture_type ?

What is $html_type and $picture_type ? I've seen them used in a few PHP programs, but couldn't find any definitions of them. Please advise.

I think picture type refers to the image file type--often gif or jpeg. $HTML type may be the HTML header (e.g.<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">)

If you need to display the picture in a web browser you'll need to send the header: Content-type: image/gif
