Retreiving maxlength value

Is there any way to retreive the maxlength value of a form textbox? As in <input type=text name=something maxlength=7>

Seems like there oughtta be.

Only way I can think of is to 1) create a hidden field that contains that value, or 2)make the length a part of the field name, and parse for that.

Yeah, that's what I thought. What I had planned to do was add the maxlength as a -7
to the name field, then split that on - and create two variables and then carry on. It just would be so much easier if somehow I could get that value on the receiving end since it's already in the form. Now I will have to alter 100 or so form thingies.

Oh well.
