using crontab

hi,
well if someone could kindly tell me

1) how to run a php script usin the crontab command.

2) if my php script is making updates in a postgresql database even then can i use crontab to periodically update that.

i have searched the forum and found previous FAQS on crontab. but i cudnt really figure out. i m new and in a hurry. plz be kind enough to give the solution.

Get yourself the CGI version of PHP. You can use both the CGI version and the Apache module version at the same time.

You can use the CGI version just like any other program.

To put the commands in the crontab, use 'crontab -e'
Check the manual pages of cron and crontab for more details.

If you have lynx available on your system, you can use

lynx -dump http://url.to.your.site/script.you.want.to.exec.php > /dev/null

actually i m in a great hurry. m very new to php and i need to do it fast.
if u cud kindly tell me how i can configure php as a cgi. i have right now configured it as an apache module and i need it like this.
but from ur reply it seems that to use crontab its necessary to have php as cgi.
i wud be really greatful if u cud give me the way to configure the cgi thing simultaneously without disturbin my previous confiuration as apache and also how to check if the cgi version has been correctly configured.
one thing else can the cron tab be used to run a php script that is updating or inserting somethin constantly in a postgresql database?
plzzz reply as soon as possible. i wud be extremely greatful.
