best way to delete a line

say I have an html file that I need to find and erase this line of code:

I can either erase the whole line or write over it with whitespaces. what's the best way to go about this?

Are you reading the file into PHP then stripping it out and re-saving?
If so you could do:

$data = file("htmlpage.htm");
$fp = fopen("newfile.htm","w");

for ($i=0;$i < count($data);$i++) {
fwrite($fp, str_replace("<META HTTP-EQUIV=\"refresh\" CONTENT=\"10;URL=\">","",$data[$i]) . "\n");
}
fclose($fp);

However you may need to use a regular expression if you are not sure exactly what format that line will be written in.

Thanks for your help. The Html files I am working with could be rather large, so your method could take a while to execute.

I was thinking, if I just write over the line that contains the meta tag with just blank characters, it would be a lot more effiecent.

I figured out how to do this using fseek but then requires me to hardcode the placing of the file pointer which isn't good practice.

I'm playing around with fscanf to see if I can search for like META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh"
but I haven't been succesful. How would you do this?

I don't get the flame, you asked a question along the lines of: should i do A or B, the person who responded said to choose A

I would agree, but the only way i can think of to erase the line is to omit it, by reading the file before and after that part and writing a new file..

How big are your HTML files!!! I have been using this method to parse 10,000 line CSV files within seconds. I don't think you will have a problem with execution time on HTML files. If so then your HTML files are way too big.

My html files are no where near 10,000 lines so I'm using your method. I just plugged it right into my code and made few minor adjustments and it worked flawlessly. Thank you so much for your help. I didn't know you could use str_replace like that. clever.
