How do I secure my source code?

Hi there,

Does anyone know how I could encode or protect the source code of my PHP application so that I could sell it without the possibility of someone viewing the code?

I know about the Zend Encoder but it looks to be very expensive for my needs. 🙁

Idealy, I need a way of distributing my compiled code securely to anyone who wants to download it and then selling a licence key to activate the product.

Any ideas would be greatly accepted.

I've searched for one too (open-source encoder) and haven't found one so far. One suggestion:

Maybe simply obfuscate (and not encode) your PHP distribution. That is, imagine replacing all \r\n (carriage-return, linefeeds) with spaces. And maybe all multiple spaces with single spaces. Your code would basically be unreadable and it would very painful for someone to try to reconstruct it for source maintenance. Just a suggestion..

Thanks Dave for the suggestion but I think I'm going to have to resort to Perl to write a little script which will activate the PHP script when people buy a registration code from me.

It's annoying that you can't encode PHP source very easily... 🙁
