Different levels of db access

I am developing a site where I let the user search a mysql database and get a list of results (it happens to be a list of trips). When these results are returned... is there anyway I can have a hyperlink avaliable to access a different table that returns additional information?

I assume in the second database that there is a unique key that identifies it to a unique field in the first db. when you display your results display them as hyperlinks and pass the key identifier as a variable as part of the href.

then when you after you click and go to the page where you want the additional info displayed do a query like

select * from 2ndtable where KEYID='$varname'
