Make Thumbnails?

Hey
I need a way to make an automatic thumbnail from an image that already exists on the server. I'm building pages that will automatically update themselves based on what has been created - and I need to display a thumbnail of the images that are created when they are created.

If you're using linux, then I would highly suggest using imagemagick - then just doing a system call... I've coded several automatic thumbnail galleries...

libpbm gives high-quality image conversion and re-sizing without the overhead of a system call.

Where do I find this? Where do I start looking to get it and learn about it.

The other issue here is that I don't have sysadmin for my servers - so is there a way to detect image sizes and just do the percentage of that?

netpbm like MOST software in this category, can be found by doing a search at freshmeat.net.

Yes, netpbm or GD can detect the size of an image, and then produce a NEW image of a smaller size. You can use php or another language to do this.

Search for 'album' or 'photo' at freshmeat for software which uses GD or netpbm. Or, look at the code from gallery:
