Rounding numbers

I want a rounding function that gives me the folloing result:

if value= 3.4 gives 4
if value=3.1 gives also 4

If the value has decimals should return a +1 integer.

Get the idea?

Try reading the manual, it helps.

Reading the manual does help. But if you have no idea what you are looking for, then, the word ceil(short for ceiling Pepe) is not one that would quickly jump to mind.

I would have tried roundup or some variation of that if I didn't know about ceil already.

Why do you have to be snippy? What is the point of, and why bother coming to, a help forum if you don't want to help people? Some people just don't know enough to check the PHP manual so we should belittle those people instead of helping them?

Carefull Icehawg, I think the 'man and fish' story is the best excuse for giving an RTFM! :-)

Anyway, this has all been discussed before, and the end result was a hundred posts and two different opinions.

Hang around PHPbuilder long enough and you soon learn there are three kinds of questions.
a) the hard ones, where the wizards spend days figuring it out.
b) the tricky ones, that are easily answered IF you know where to look.
c) the 'I don't feel like reading the manual' ones, which deserve an RTFM and the answer if you're in a good mood.
No, c) is not to belittle those of us who don't know where to find certain functions, it's just to remind them that they should try to solve a problem by themselves before posting on the forum.

And that's the end of this discussion, or it wil drag on for days and make us all angry and keep us from answering questions. :-)
