There have been many sample codes provided by other programmers out there which deal with online list and/or private messaging using cookies and/or sessions.
None of these seems to be "perfect" though. If we only use sessions, there is a possibility that the user can browse the web site with two separate browser windows, thus creating two distinct sessions. You might say we can determine if they are of the same person by comparing the ip addresses. But this may not work if the person has a dynamic IP which allows him/her to have a constant changing IP during his/her visit?
Now you might say we can use cookies to identify this person. But what if the person doesn't support cookies?
Does anyone have a better solution to handle all these possible problems?
