Forcing HTML file to interpret PHP

Is there a way to force a HTML page to interpret PHP from within the HTML page itself w/o modifying anything else on the server?

well, i'm not sure that i understand you correctly, but i've got an answer nonetheless.

my company's website is hosted at a giant server farm in atalanta. i share a server with a few hundred other sites. they run php as cgi, not as a module, for 'security reasons'. inside every page that has php code in it, i have to include the path to php as the first line of the file:

#!/usr/local/bin/php - is where it is on my server. it runs php which then interprets the code whether it's php, html, or a mix of the two...

maybe this helps. maybe not. perhaps someone will have a question in the distant future that this answer answers...we'll never know.

You can put an .htaccess file in your root directory with the following line:

AddType application/x-httpd-php html

Every page will then be parsed as though it were a php file. You can also change the extension "html" to anything else, or add other extensions, such as "htm" if necessary.

will that work with the cgi version or only with the apache module?

i'm constantly having problems installing large multi-file php applications on my server because of having to include #!/usr/local/bin/php at the top of every page. whenever a file is require()'d, if that file has the #!/etc. at the top, it is displayed in the browser window...

I've only ever used php as an Apache module, so I'm not sure if it would work with the cgi version or not. I'm inclined to think it will only work with the Apache module though.
