function not defined????

I have a problem using functions like

require_once
extension_loaded
etc...

why??? I´m using PHP4.0.2b but I don´t think that´s the problem...

should someone helpme a little bit?

Well... the error is this:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: require_once() in inc/inc.php on line 6

inc/inc.php on line 6 have this:

require_once('vars.inc');
