streaming in linux

i am using php4,mysql and redhat linux7.0 as an operating system.Currently i am involved in developing with streaming.But i don't have much ideas about this.Is it possible to use windows media player for streaming.Will linux support audio/video streaming using windows media player.If not is that any utility/tool available to make this work.I am totally blank on this.Could any one suggest me a solution on this.Your help will be much appreciated.

I´m dealing with the same problem... But searching through OSDN i found some really good options.. Try Apple's Darwin Streaming system from:

http://www.publicsource.apple.com/projects/streaming/

I'm still reading the docs but I think it will solve my problems.. hope it can help you... also check freshmeta.org...
