Tracking zip file downloads

Hi,

I want to track the downloads for my zip files. Is it possible for the zip file to be user read only and not world readable so that users can't download it directly. They would have to go to the PHP page to download it. Is it possible to set the return header's content type to return a binary zip file, open a file handle to the zip file, and then just print out the contents of the zip file?

Also, is there any webpage that shows how to do this?

I generally put the files outside the directories accessible by clients and have PHP open/push them from there... Check out the below message for some example code and feel free to e-mail me if you have any problems.
