Auto Update every # minutes

Hi all,

Ok here's how the database is setup. If Column is called turns and its an integer field.

How would I run a script so that every X minutes, all records would have their Turn value increased by 1?

I m sure its a very basic coding problem but my book I have doesnt cover it really. And I'm very very new to PHP, about 2 days.

If you are running un*x, you can use the crontab to start a CGI version of PHP to do whatever you like.

I'm on a Windows development platform running Win2000 w/ Apache and PHP 4.0.5

What database are you using?

could you not just do something like:
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="120;URL=pagename.php">

where pagename.php is the page that this line is in. that way it will update whatever sql statements you have.

I'm using MySql, is there an automatic function that will every X minutes send a query updating records in the database. E.g. add 1 to all records in this a numerical field.

Use the wincron utility, or the 'at' command. That will let you schedule programs under windows.

No, because he wants to have the updates run all the time.
You method does refresh, but only if the page is loaded into a browser, which is not what he wants.
