every 5 minutes, i would like a certain event to happen, such as adding to a number...is there a timer or anything?

Yeah this exactly what I wnat to know.

I m using MySql and PHP on a Windows machine. Is there some sort of query I can run every 5 minutes automatically on MySql.

If you want a timed event, use crontab on unix, or Scheduled Events on NT, to trigger off a command-line php script, or a command-line url getter to fetch a script via your server.

if you don't have NT or Unix, you'll find the other windows OSs only allow you to schedule tasks DAILY, not every 5 minutes.

here is my solution:

create a new .bat file with contents:

:LOOP
c:\php\php c:\progra~1\apache~1\apache\htdocs\cron_job.php
goto😃ELAY

😃ELAY
rem | choice /n /ty,300 > nul
goto:LOOP

that will run 'cron_job.php' every 5 minutes.

Oy! You can infer how often I actually use the windows thingie.

Look for a program called Wincron. It allows win9x and NT boxes to have a cron like task scheduler (i.e. regular events are much easier to schedule than with the AT scheduler build into NT or the goofy scheduler MS made for win 9x.
