transfering data from php script to java

hi,
i'm developing a system that invovles a client-program written in java and a server side php script.
i can get the java program to activate and send info to the php script over the internet. however, is there anyway at all to make the php script send data back to the java program? if there is, how is it done?

If the java program is calling the php script via get or post then you will just 'echo' it back as you would 'echo' data to the browser.
