You probably have an unclosed quote, parenthesis, bracket, etc., somewhere in the document. Try viewing the .phps file to find unclosed quotes (the colouring helps a lot), or just throw a bunch of closing parentheses, etc., at the end in emacs and hope that emacs finds a stray opener.
