sessions problems

hey there,
I just thought I would play around with sessions, but I've got stuck.
Alright, I am not doing anything, just writing this on my page:

session_start();
$whatever="AlCapone";
session_register("whatever");
?>

and I get this:

as you've guessed it I'm under win98 and have apache installed. PHP works fine with everything else (well except mail() though 🙂) but sessions just don't work.
c'mon, gurus, givmme a hint here, I am out of ideas

you have to change your sessions folding in php.ini................

just read the error php is giving, it is fairly up front... of course open(/tmp\sessblah...) would fail, that isn't a valid path on your system.

mail with also work if you configure php.ini with your SMTP server (outgoing mail)

install notes and readmes are your friends.

🙂)) php.ini ...php.ini boy, I new that all my head aches are in there. But you know what? I don't have it anymore 🙂 Though I remember configuring it, I can't find it anylonger. It's just like disapeared. Any suggestions where I could get one? 🙂)
No for real, what if this file ain't there? do I have to re-install php?

P.S. it is supposed to be in %windows% dir right? uh... even if not, search didn't help

create a test script and put in it:
<?
phpinfo();
?>

and see where it is looking for the file.

check that location and see if it exists. if it does, edit it, if not....

go to where you installed php (i.e. c:\PHP) and look for php-ini.dist or something similar
