Session Issues

I'm having trouble with starting a session. I have a form on one server that I want to be able to start a session and store some variables. I have a header statement that goes to a page on another server. When I start the session on this page, none of the variables are brought over. Any ideas?

You can't use sessions on different servers. First the main method of sessions storing their ID's is to use cookies, and cookies are only sent to the server that created them. Second the data that the session is storing is held in a temporary file on the servers hard drive, so another server won't know what that data is.

Would cookies work somehow? Aren't those stored on the viewer's computer?

The only thing I can think of that might work, is if you had your machines behind a proxy and the sessions were stored in a common database. This is of course just a theory, never done anything like this. The idea is that the cokkies would appear to come from the same place (The proxy).

What about some sort of invisible form. Could I take the values I want, make them hidden fields and then post to the page I want them to go to? Will that work? With an html form, you need the user to hit the submit button, but someone was telling me that you can have the page submit when it loads, do you know anything about that? Thanks!

Alan's suggestion is alomst there. If you were to store the session data in a database under a unique ID and then you could pass that ID as a GET parameter in the URL. It's not secure but it would work.

Cookies won't work (see my first comment). Cookies are only sent back to the server that set them. If your servers are both in the same domain then cookies will work, but I don't think this is the case.
