id problem

I have a table with 31000 records. But that table dosen't have any id ie.autonumber or anything like that .
Fields are just Name, Email, Address1, Address2, city, State, Phone1 and phone2.

Now i got a job to modify some records of that table.
How can i do it.. Because this table dosen't have any id.

It is possible from backend. But how to do it from front-end.

Can i insert new field id ??? This should effect all the rows . ie if i insert the new field id This should be auto increment and effect all the records.

Please Help ....

I made a new table and inserted all the data from original table to new table then i deleted the original table and
then the renamed my new table to original tables name.

Actually there was very simple logic behind this ..
