You don't: PHP is strictly server-side. It can, of course, generate a page with any amount of embedded javascript, but by the time the user is viewing it in the browser, the PHP script is done.

First of all, you don't want to do that. It's the most annoying piece of non-information ever devised, and it takes quite a bit of work to get any reliable data about it. Remember, HTTP is stateless, you cannot tell how many poeple are on your website, because they never really get on or off.
