Getting the proper date

Umm ok a bit of a newbie question here.

My server does not run on GMT time, but thats what I want it to display. I have tried using 'gmdate' and have also tried it in conjunction with 'gmmktime', but it will not give satisfactory results (i.e. it gives the wrong GMT time). Why?

It appears when I just use gmdate without a timestamp (optional) parameter the GMT time is out by 1 hour -- daylight saving? How can I correct this problem?

try this
echo gmdate ("M d Y H:i:s", mktime (11,0,0,7,10,2001,0));

this shud print the gmt time wherever you are.
the timestamp parameter is important and here it is set to '0' as its not yet day light saving . if there is day light savings factor to be takien into account it will be set to 1.
