passing variable thru a series of pages

I'm very new to php and html in general, so please bear with me...

I'm working on a site which requires the user to log in to an account on the entry page. Other pages in the site allow the user to add records to various tables. The user's login is the key field in these various tables. The first page visited after the login page works fine (using a form and post method), but after that, the login disappears and I can't add records (because a key field is null).

I think this will require sessions to work. Is this the right track, or is there something else I can do?

Yeah, looks like sessions are the best bet for what you want to do. You could also pass the user id from page to page just by building your links with <b>?id=whatever</b> appended to the href value or use a hidden form field in the case of forms, but I think a session variable is the best solution here.

Yep.....sessions are the best way to fullfill your job.It's hectic work,you need to be verycareful and not secure to pass the variable through URL or Hidden form fields .
