Help on sending files

I have an application that has to send a text file created on the server to a user who has connected to the site and executed a script that has created the file.

How can I send the file or any file from the server to the user's computer ?

you can send the file to the user in the browser itself
or you can send it as a mail(if you have their email address)

since it is a text file it is best to send it in the browser itself.
