No function named fwrite

Try to make a guestbook with the following code:

$webpage = "reactions.html";
$pageindex = fopen($webpage, "a");
fwrite($pageindex, "$name $email ");
fwrite($pageindex, "$reaction ");
fclose($pageindex);
?>

in another html-page I put the form that gets the $name, $email and $reaction parameters.

when executing I get the error-message
No function named fwrite on line 7

What's going on?

There is a coupel of errors i think in your code.

First try using a or a+ or w or w+ to write

and this line has an error too :
fwrite($pageindex, "$name $email ");
fwrite($pageindex, "$reaction ");

it should be :

fwrite($pageindex, "$name . $email \n");
fwrite($pageindex, "$reaction \n");

Dont forget the dot between $name and $email.

Forget about the advice regarding fopen: "a" or just plain append mode is indeed probably what you want. However, you should be checking that fopen isn't returning NULL, which is what it does if the open fails for some reason.

Then, a further thought: can you use fwrite() OK in other contexts? If not, then something is probably wrong with your PHP installation.

that's what my thought was.........

I have apache 1.3.6 and php3-3.0.9 installed that came with RedHat 6.0.
Configured httpd.conf so it has the php3 modules activated
Configured php3.ini with AddType.... .php3 and .html

any suggestions??

Not until I can figure out whether you answered my questions about using fwrite in other contexts, and if so, whether your answer was YES it does work in other scripts, or NO it doesn't. :-)

when i put back the original version of the php3.ini and rebooted the systeem it all worked!!
