Setting up a 404 Missing Page

My ISP has set me up with a 404 missing page but I've finally worked out why the article (in php builder) about building pages for search engines was about. Robots hate ? and fake directories hold information required AND look real.

So, I want to extend my 404 page from a simple html page to php with guts.

Problem is, how do I set up a 404 page on my home environment so I can test before unleashing into my sites?

Place the line
"ErrorDocument 404 /scripts/my404error.php3"
inside a .htaccess in the root folder of your server. Make sure you enable the "FileInfo" override in the <Directory> directive inside the httpd.conf. Please read the page if there was anything I overlooked.
