date date date!

Hello everyone,

i need help, obviously 🙂

i have a datetime, that i take from a table, and have that format : 2001-12-12 12:12:12. I store it in $the_date.

And then i have the current date in $current_date.

I want to do the difference between the two to see how long its been since i didn't receive a "fresher" $the_date.

but $current_date - $the_date doesn't seem to work.

I've look over the timestamp and all but even when I substract two timestamp it still doesn't work.

Someone got an idea?

try...

$the_date = "2001-07-17 12:12:12"; // which would be pulled from your database

$the_date = strtotime($the_date); //converts it to seconds

$current_date = strtotime(date("Y-m-d H:i:s")); //converts current date and time to seconds

$difference = round((($current_date-$the_date)/86400), 2);
//number of days difference where 86400 is the number of seconds in a day rounded to 2 places

You can use time() instead of $current_date = strtotime(date("Y-m-d H:i:s"));

And if you don't trust strtotime to convert your database format, you can extract the individual numbers with list($y, $m, $d, $h, $mi, $s) = preg_split("/[-: ]/", $time); and call mktime.
