Image Thumbnails

Problem: I have like photo gallery and want to show thumbnails instead of loading every picture's big version or even making smaller pics an linking. I want to have big picture which is made to certain ratio and displayed on the fly by php.
Question:
Can php make smaller version of the images and display on the fly?

There is a PHP script out there that does it automatically, i`ll find it out and send it to you. Very simple to use. You select a directory, it them displays all the images as thumbnails, and when you select an image a pop window appears with the full image in it.

Don't do it that way.

You don't want to spend time converting images to thumbnails every time you view them.

Instead, make the thumbnails once and store them on disk.
Much much much faster.
