Inserting Dates?

Hi,
I have a select menu, where you select a date, it consists of 3 selects menus, days, months, years. Which is then inserted into a database. I'm sure I've had it before so if you select 30/02/2002, it realizes that this date doesn't exist, and puts it in as 02/03/2002. However, just recently it still gets inserted as 30/02/2002. What could I have changed? The field type is timestamp(8) so the actual date insert is 010230 (yymmdd).
Does anyone have any ideas?

What DB are you using?

Mysql, but I've fixed it now, someone had been messing with the table, and had changed the field to varchar(8) rather than timestamp(8).
I should check these things before posting, soz!
