accessing array via $GLOBALS

Hi,

i am passing the name of a variable to a
function. In this function i need to access the
value of this variable via the $GLOBALS array ...
This works as long as the passed name belongs to
a scalar...but i can not figure out how to make it
work if the overgiven name belongs to an arrayelement
e.g. 'foo[1]'....
Any Ideas ...
