mySQL - warning connection failed:

i just setup a new user, testing through the scripts..but the connection failes:
getting the message:

mySQL - warning connection failed: user@localhost (password: yes)

example: i can login

mysql -u user --> works
mysql -u user -p
-> ***** --> doesn't work..it says (password yes);

help!

Did you remember to type:

flush privileges;

after you set up the user in the mysql.user table?
