2 dimensional arrays......

sorry if this is a dumb question, but i can't get my head around 2 d arrays with php....
how do you set about translating this simple bit of vbscript ????

for i = 0 to maxnumber - 1
solution(0,i) = this
solution(1,i) = that
next i

flipped through the wrox books, but they kind of skip the issue
