Simple Cookie Question

I am fairly new to php. I have created a form for a login that goes to a php script to athenticate users. My question is this, using php, how can I have the user fill out the username, then once they login, for now on until their cookie expires, their username shows up in the username field when going back to the login screen.

Please help!

then

input type="text" name="username" value="<?php echo $cook_name" ?>"

Hey thanks there! Ok sounds stupid, where do I insert the get the cookie portion? Very top?

I doesn't really matter as long as you put it in before you reference it.

I personally put all that at the top fo the page, with all my other variables.
