URL rewriting

Hello,

I read some posts dealing about it, but didn't find any complete solution about it...

I have a site with about 600 articles whose url are
http://www.mysite.com/articles/articlename/

I'm currently building a new version with php, and I guess that the new url will look like this :

http://www.mysite.com/article.php?id=12345

What should I do to keep using the previous url form ?
ie. when a visitor try to access http://www.mysite.com/articles/articlename/, it calls the script article.php ?
