Splitting problem !!

Hello !

I'd like to know that how can i split a string which contains a backslash.

The string is a file path, and that is include some backslash. e.g.: D:\develop\pictures\exapmle.jpg.

A need only the filename!

I've tried this: (the $filestr is the filepath)

$str = preg_split("/\/",$filestr) ;

but it didn't work...

I 've tried in JavaScript , and I have had the same problem.

Please help me as soon as you can! This is very urgent.

D'oh, I think I gave someone advice on this yesterday. Ok, when using preg_*, it is actually checked for escape sequences twice, once for the string in php (between the "") and then again by the pcre library functions. So, you would have to use three (escape it for php and then again for pcre):

$str = preg_split("/\\/", $filestr);

And it should work.

Three choices come immediately to mind:

$test_st = "d:\pictures\here\otherstuff\morepictures\picture.jpg";

First, to correct your code:

$str = preg_split("/\\/",$test_st) ; // you were missing the third backslash

Or:

$arr_ar = explode("\", $test_st);

Or:

$tok = strtok ($test_st,"\");
while ($tok)
{
echo "Word=$tok<br>";
$tok = strtok ("\");
}

How about explode() and then get the last array vaule (which would be the filename).

Sample code, untested!

$path = "d:\blah\blah\filename.jpg";

$path_array = explode("\", $path);

$filename = end($path_array);

echo $filename;

You don't need a regex for this.

$name = "D:\develop\pictures\example.jpg";
echo substr($name, strrpos($name, "\") + 1);

Or use basename() if the file exists on the local filesystem.

Hey, I didn't think about basename() - or read the question carefully enough. That's definitely what you want to use (and it doesn't have to be on the same server - basename() will pull the filename from any path string).
