mysql error help

can anybody help me?
i'am trying to query out max(number) from
the table but the table is empty.when i query, it display error message.But when i change the table field type to char, it's ok.But the error occur when table field type is integer.Do anybody know solve it.

Does it work with data in the table?
If so you would need to test the table contained data before exceuting the query, if it didn't the value should be null. You can do this by just selecting all from the table and counting the rows returned.
