I'd like to know, what would differ, if i use mod_gzip of apache to compress my documents, instead of PHP's built-in gzip functions?
They seem to be doing the same job, do they ?

Not sure but I think they both issue identical instructions to gzip.... as such one was probably written to "emulate" the other so there is no difference
