mail() not working, help?

Env:
Win98 (For dev only! NT4 for production)
Apache 1.3.11
PHP 4.0.6

Problem:
When trying to send mail, browser returns:
Warning: Failed to Connect in c:\apache1311\htdocs\ip\public\sendmail2.php on line 2

Line 2 of PHP document reads:
mail("[e-mail]", "Test Subject", "Test\n Test\n Test");

c:\php\php.ini contains:
smtp = mymailserver.com
sendmail_from = [e-mail]

I also have in httpd.conf file:
php_value smtp mymailserver.com
php_value sendmail_from [e-mail]

I am new to PHP (Installed for 3 hours now ;-) and could use some help on this please, gotta have this feature running!

well

mail prg is the simplest of all coding
there is noting to do in Apache

u have to check is u'r mailserver
configurations

in that set u options for

sendmail or qmail

if check into it ,u'r problem will
be solved.
why dont u check on it........

Its not a mail server problem, the same vars used in an .exe app I wrote works fine. Not a firewall, NAT or issue like that.

For one, Im not even sure if I have the php.ini path setup proper for the PHP mod in Apache to read it!

I specified my HTTPd and OS for reference, I know there is nothing that Apache could be doing wrong, its strictly a PHP issue.

Still not getting mail out, still need help. Drats!!

FIXED!

php.ini has to be in c:\windows|winnt dir in order for its entries to be read. mail() is working like a charm!
