I've long wanted to create an online test, like on thespark.com, where users go through a series of questions before having their results printed on the page, depending on what they answered etc.

Can this be done in PHP? What kind of functions do I need to look at? Any help would be appreciated- I'm a beginner so no technical jargon please!

Well, Andy, you'll probably want to use a database to store answers so you'll have to choose what DB you are going to use and look into the functions dealing with creating and querying records for that particular database. Also, you'll want to make some simple form scripts to help you understand how PHP passes variables and such.

Thanks Ben, I'll look into that.

Writing form answers to a databse (or text file as I'm currently using) isn't a problem, it's just knowing what sort of script I'll need to translate those scripts. Like, say, if they score 4/10, 6/10 and 3/10 in different parts of a test, a calculator to add those scores up and so forth.

A database will take the burden of much of that parsing and leave you free to play around with the display and scores and such. Look into strtok() and ereg statements if you are going to use the text file, though.
