mysql_connect() error

my php script shows error when connecting
to mysql saying

"unable to connect to mysql thru '..../sock'

in my linux machine

but my mysql is running fine when i use it by my command prompt in linux

help??

note: also I have installed chili asp and tried by asp script ,it gives error connection not open and driver unable to load

You can define path to socket in mysql_connect

mysql_connect ([string hostname [:port] [:/path/to/socket] [, string username [,
string password]]])

You can see your path in consol mysql by command status
