need some help with getting going

Hi,
I am not new to IT, but I am new to using databases for complicated tasks. I have looked at tons of tutorials, and all of them are like looking at hash tables. Can anyone point me to a tutorial that is usable? I already have several databases functioning, and have been using myPhpAdmin02.2.0rc2 for a few days. But I am having trouble locating any tutorials that are going to help me develop a useful php/mysql or postgreSQL interface (such as which can be searched from the web). I am strong with Perl, so
I am thinking about abandoning this and just going with perl from command line. Any links out there that can help me???

Thanks! I have already been involved in PHP4 for some time, including authoring the the PHP4 manual at http://manual.ezpublishing.com

What I was more interested in (direct approach here...) is obtaining some php scripts that allow me to control (search, add, remove, etc.) a mysql database from the web. I have used such an interface which my former employer had a team of programmers develop. I didn't want to "re-invent the wheel". I was hoping there was a download of this type of thing somewhere.

myPhpAdmin is cool, but not what I needed.
