A while ago someone released replacement SNMP source code for PHP. The code replaced the PHPv3 source code for the SNMP extension. I've since upgraded the code to work under PHP v4.
Its available for download at:

It add's several new functions such as snmp_getnext()
Documentation is included in the archive.
