Time zone issue

My web hosting co. is on the West Coast, while I am on the East Coast. So every FTP action I do ends up with the file time stamp as being 3 hrs. behind.

Not only that, when I call to gettime() or some similiar function, it returns the time for PDT, not EDT.

Short of switching web hosts (again) for one on the East Coast, how can I add add 3 hrs. to any function that returns this as PDT? Is there anything in the library that would allow me to do something like:

$time = ($time + 3 hr);

$time = date("g:i A", mktime(date("g", time()) + 3, date("i", time()), date("s", time()), date("n", time()), date("d", time()), date("Y", time()))

should produce the desired effect:
$time = "2:22 PM" or whatever time it is there.

Looks like the library is ripe for a function that just adds minutes to a given time. I tried to step thru what you sent but got lost somewhere.

Looks like the follow factors come into play here:

g - 12 hour format
i - minutes
A - am or pm
s - seconds
n - month
d - day of month
Y - year (four digits)

I Need to sort all of this out. I guess the idea is that you have to account for all of the above, just in case it's 23:59 on December 31 and you want to add the three hours. Right?

But do we need all of the above factors if we are just dealing with hours of the day? For example, if I don't care about the year, month, or month day, only the hour and minute, can we simplify this a bit?
