Editing a story.

Web site utilizing a db news setup.
Table called "news" contains a field body in which is the body of the story.

I have a news editing form, where I query and pull the body field into $body.

Then in the form I make a textarea's value equal to $body. This should pull into the textarea the story.

My problem is that the textarea though in the view source of the page does have story, it is not displaying in the textarea field on my edit form.

• The story's sometime include HTML, so we have first run:
  $body = str_replace('"', "'", $body);
  To flip the quotes in the story, then we write $body to the form.

I use the same method for several projects I've done with no problems. You might want to consider redoing the HTML tags with a proprietary set of tags ( rather then <img src=...>) and reparsing them as HTML when your story is displayed as some HTML tags will cause forms to have fits. Also, check for backslashes. Those can be troublesome to your PHP.

Sorry for a lack of a definitive answer but you didn't provide much information.

Thanks... and I did find a solution...

It wasn't anything to with the function... sorry it is just my inexperience...

the solution:

<textarea .... value="<?=&body; "></textarea>
</pre>
RATHER THAN
<pre>
<textarea .... value=""><?= &body;</textarea>
</pre>

I moved the variable out of the value attibute and it shows up fine.
