PHP Web host

I am new to PHP and would like to learn more, i have read a lot of books and each book says load this onto your web sever, however, like most people learning, i do not have my own and our work server does not use PHP. Can someone tell me where i can get 5-10MB of free web space with PHP server support. thanks.

There are very few good free PHP hosts. I'd really strongly recommend taking the books' advice and get your own server. You can run a server easily on your own computer. Though I haven't tried it personally, assuming you're running Windows, it seems that the quickest and easiest way to get your own PHP-capable server running is to download PHP Triad, which can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/phptriad/

If you don't like that option, the second-easiest route is to download the Apache server from http://httpd.apache.org/ and PHP from http://www.php.net/ (in both cases, look for Win32 binaries, not source code) and follow the included instructions.

I really think you'll be happier with this than trying to deal with a shoddy free host. I hope it works out for you.

I agree with Jordan that setting it up on a local machine is the best option.

Don't know where you are based but a half decent free one in the UK (though you have to pay local call charges obviously) is http://www.freeola.com . They aren't brilliant but you do get unlimited webspace to play around with though no database functionality 🙁
