fopen trouble

Bonjour!

My line :

$fp = fopen("c:/test.txt", "w");

My error :

Warning: fopen("c:/test.txt","w") - No such file or directory in /var/www/html/prattshop/excel.php4 on line 5

And then after that I get some error because my file handle is not correct :

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /var/www/html/prattshop/excel.php4 on line 25

I don't know what to do. The file doesn't exist but in the manual it says, and I quote, "If the file does not exist, attempt to create it. " That's what i want, create a new file. (http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.fopen.php)

Any help would be appreciated

Try $fp = fopen("/tmp/test.txt", "w"); or some other directory that is writable by the user your server run as.

what if i want to create the file on the user computer. See, i want to write all the data from a table into a flat file (txt) so the user can after edit it with excel or whatever he wants.

so i need to put the file into user computer...

It can't create files on the client side. PHP runs on the server.

You need to put it someplace under /htdocs where they can download it or you can send the appropriate Content-Type and Content-Disposition headers and print the file to the browser.
